General FAQs
Winged decided to focus on women after our founder, Jess Mulligan, had a long period of anxiety. She found relief from combinations of plant medicines like CBD, adaptogens and herbs that helped her by balancing her hormones and her endocannabinoid system. Jess realized there was nothing available that combined these powerhouse ingredients for women and that’s when the idea of Winged began to form. Why should a woman take the same exact formula that a man takes, when our bodies are so different? We have different hormone responses, different pain responses and we struggle with anxiety, depression and insomnia at twice the rate men do. Let that sink in for a minute.
Jess knew so many women who were going through the same things she was emotionally and knew a product line that was specifically made for women might just do a lot to help them.
Winged was designed with Jess, her friends, her family and all the women she met along the way in mind. Real women, amazing mothers, sisters and friends who deserve something efficacious that could help them be the best version of themselves.
When women aren’t bogged down with stress or anxiety, they can move mountains. If you ever seen a woman in flow state, you know what we are talking about. Winged was designed to help women be in that place as much as possible.
Every woman is different, so based on your specific needs we hope there’s a product in our lineup that helps you be the best version of you.

Our products are tested multiple times from soil-to-shelf by an ISO certified independent 3rd party lab to assure quality, potency and purity. Our products are guaranteed to contain the CBD on the label and be free of heavy metals, pesticides and harmful microbes. Each label contains a QR code that can be scanned by a smartphone and is linked to a Certificate of Analysis on our website for every batch we produce. All our products are made in GMP compliant and NSF certified facilities.
Our products have a shelf life of two years from the date of manufacturing. The expiration date is printed on the bottom of the box and bottle, so you always know you are taking a fresh product.
All products in our line are vegan except for our Relief Soft Gels, Happiness Soft Gels and Glow Up Collagen + Stress Powder. We use a bovine gelatin shell for the two soft gel products because we’ve found that material preserves the freshness of the internal soft gel nutrients better than plant-based shell materials. In Glow Up, collagen is not found in the plant kingdom, so there are no vegan options available to use.

CBD FAQs
Our hemp is grown under the American sun using pesticide-free farming methods. We grow in both Kentucky and Oregon.
All Winged products meet the definition of hemp and contain less than 0.3% THC.
CO2 is like that deliciously fresh squeezed orange juice, whereas other extraction techniques that do not use CO2 are like store bought orange juice from concentrate. Let’s be real – it tastes way different.
CO2 extraction is considered the gold standard for hemp processing because it doesn’t require solvents like ethanol, butane or propane, which inevitably leave residue behind. CO2 is carbon dioxide, just like the gas found in the air we breathe. After passing through the hemp plant and extracting all those lovely nutrients, CO2 evaporates and no residuals are left behind – just pure, nutritious full spectrum hemp extract.
Hemp cultivation is one of the oldest crops known to humankind dating back over 10,000 years. Hemp has been grown for textile fibers, pottery, rope and food. The Chinese were one of the first to recognize the hemp plant and used it to make paper. In 2700 BCE the first reference to hemp was found in literature. The Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, known as the father of ancient Chinese medicine, wrote the medical encyclopedia “Pen Ts’ao” which contains a list of hundreds of medicines derived from plants, and cannabis “ma” was on the list!
Hemp has been used for hundreds of years in America. Some believe that our very own Declaration of Independence was originally written on hemp paper. However, the Tax Act of 1937 made it illegal to grow hemp because it was classified in the same category as it’s illicit cousin marijuana. After lots of education and lobbying, hemp was finally legalized initially by the 2014 Farm Bill and then expanded by the 2018 Farm Bill. Today, hemp is used in a variety of industries, including beauty products and food, but is most well known as a supplement using CBD oil from hemp extract. We are excited to see where this industry will go in the future, we can only imagine!
There’s lots of confusion around CBD and THC, but it’s understandable because of two similar looking plant “cousins” that come from the same genus of plant called cannabis. There are two distinctly different types of cannabis plants – one is marijuana and the other is hemp. Marijuana is classified as a drug that can get you “high” and hemp is federally legal and isn’t considered a drug. The difference between marijuana and hemp lies in the amount of THC and CBD found in each plant.
Marijuana can contain over 30% THC, which is the substance that gives someone a “high” euphoric feeling. However, marijuana generally contains low amounts of CBD.
Hemp, as defined by law, cannot contain more than 0.3% THC. That’s 100 times less THC than marijuana! Such a small amount of THC means there’s no psychoactive “high” when hemp is consumed. On the other hand, CBD concentrations are greater in hemp plants and offer all the wonderful benefits you’ve heard about. In other words, you won’t get stoned when taking a CBD product.

Without dragging you through an hourlong monologue on the history of hunter-gatherer eating habits (side note: how did they survive without French fries?), let’s just say that the cannabinoids found in the hemp plant have been part of the human diet throughout history…until the past 80 years or so in America. Due to prohibition and the misclassification of hemp, most people are lacking the amazing nutrition found in hemp.
Cannabidiol (CBD), the most abundant cannabinoid in hemp, is such a critical nutrient that our bodies have evolved an entire system to utilize this nutrient. Similar to our Nervous System, we have a system called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) that is nourished by cannabinoids like CBD and it’s responsible for harmonizing all other systems within our bodies. It might not seem like it, but that’s a BIG DEAL!
From killing it at work, continuously washing a never-ending pile of laundry, dealing with rambunctious kids, to looking like a movie star when we step out of the front door, we all do our best to find balance in our day to day lives. Well, that’s where the ECS comes in. When a system in our body is out of whack, the ECS systems knows exactly what to do in order to bring our bodies back to homeostasis.
Does it ever feel like your hormones are off-balanced? Or do you ever feel like one minute you’re on cloud nine and the next you’re anxious and angry? It could be that an undernourished ECS doesn’t have the resources to support one of the other systems in your body.
If you don’t properly feed the ECS it tends to get a little “hangry”. That’s where we come in, by providing high quality hemp-derived CBD formulas. Basically, Winged offers the nutritional equivalent of comfort food for the ECS.
Every person produces something called “endocannabinoids”, which are chemicals our bodies make that feed the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). However, due to the stress of modern life our bodies often can’t keep up and we need a little help from Mother Nature. “Phytocannabinoids” are found in the hemp plant and are nearly identical to the endocannabinoids that our own bodies produce. A hemp extract supplement contains these “phytocannabinoids” to nutritionally support our ECS System.
Hemp extract and hemp seed oil contain completely different nutrients.
Hemp Extract is derived from the hemp plant, most commonly from the flowers and leaves. The extract is naturally rich in phytocannabinoids. The most famous (and most abundant) phytocannabinoid is Cannabidiol (CBD), but there are dozens of other cannabinoids like Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabigerol (CBG) and Cannabichromene (CBC) found in hemp extract as well. These are the nutrients that nourish the Endocannabinoid System and offer benefits like mood and sleep support or physical discomfort relief.
Hemp Seed Oil does not contain phytocannabinoids like CBD and does not offer the same benefits. Hemp Seed Oil is derived from hemp seeds and contains fatty acids, much like olive oil or coconut oil. It is still nutritious for the body, but in a different way. Hemp Seed Oil can be used for cooking or salad dressings but isn’t used as a dietary supplement like CBD from hemp extract.
A hemp plant, after being harvested from our pesticide-free fields, then gets processed to remove the beneficial micro-nutrients found in the plant. Out comes an amazingly nutritious juice called hemp extract. From that point on additional refinement occurs, such as removing some of the waxes found in the hemp extract juice.
What’s left is a “full spectrum” hemp extract, meaning that the juice contains the full range of phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD is the most famous cannabinoid, but there are over 80 other phytocannabinoids like CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDa and so on. In our eyes, we believe this is the most beneficial type of hemp extract because we don’t leave anything out that was created in nature. There may be very low levels of THC in the full spectrum hemp extract, but it’s below 0.3% concentration, which is the limit allowed by the federal government. Such a small amount of THC won’t get you high like marijuana and is legal throughout America to sell as a dietary supplement.
Full spectrum hemp extract can be further processed to remove 100% of the THC if desired. Often this additional processing involves solvents like ethanol. It’s difficult to remove only THC though, so during the removal process some of the other beneficial cannabinoids like CBG, CBC and CBN may also be reduced. Not all of the other cannabinoids are removed, so in addition to CBD there are still some amounts of the other cannabinoids left. This is then referred to as “broad spectrum” hemp extract.
A third process can also be performed to completely remove everything except CBD using additional solvents. All of the other cannabinoids, including THC, CBG, CBN and CBC are taken out. That is referred to as an “isolate” of CBD. Isolate CBD has come under criticism because many believe the combination of all the cannabinoids in hemp work together as a team to increase the benefits in the body. That teamwork is called the “Entourage Effect”, but isolates don’t have that benefit.
Unfortunately, there is not enough data that tells us if it is safe or not to take CBD while you are pregnant. We always recommend speaking with your doctor first. The FDA has cautioned against pregnant women taking CBD. The full article can be read here.
So, here’s the thing. We recommend that individuals who are required to pass a drug test stay away from any hemp derived products. All Winged products meet the definition of hemp and contain less than 0.3% THC. However, depending on a lab’s testing procedures and limits allowed by an employer or government agency, it is possible that some THC could be reported on a drug test. If you have any concerns, we recommend speaking with your employer and testing facility before using Winged products.
CBD works differently for everyone, and we always recommend finding your sweet spot. Start with the recommended dosage and work up from there.
CBD and Winged products are dietary supplements and have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
As with any dietary supplement, it is always best to consult with your physician or health care provider before starting a new health care routine, especially if you are taking prescription medications or have dietary restrictions.
