Seven Facts Everyone Should Know About CBD

Almost overnight, CBD seemed to become the new must-have ingredient. Everyone and their mother is stocking up on CBD oils and gummies! Even with the increased popularity of CBD, there is still a fair amount of misinformation surrounding the beloved compound.

If you are a newbie to CBD, you might want to learn everything about it before you try it. Or you might think of yourself as a “CBD expert,” but it never hurts to learn something new.

We want to be completely transparent about all things CBD because everyone should know how it may affect your mind & body. Keep reading for seven facts everyone should know about CBD, from the basics to misconceptions!

1. CBD Won’t Get You High

You may hesitate to try CBD if you think it will provide the same effect as smoking weed. Let’s make one thing super clear, CBD can’t get you high. Here’s what you need to know:

The cannabis plant contains dozens of chemical compounds called cannabinoids. The most well-known, CBD and THC, are pretty different

Tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC) is the cannabinoid that everyone tends to experiment with in college. Marijuana is defined as any Cannabis sativa plant with greater than 0.3% THC.

THC is associated with the psychoactive effects of marijuana. Psychoactive defines any substance that affects mental processes like cognition, basically the feeling of your “high.”

Cannabidiol (CBD) is another compound completely separate from THC. Unlike its THC cousin, CBD is not psychoactive; instead, it can provide a range of potential health benefits and therapeutic effects. Hemp plants are Cannabis sativa plants that are characterized as having less than 0.3% THC.

The main takeaway when comparing CBD vs. THC is that CBD will not get you “high.” CBD can uplift your mood and soothe your body without the stoned effect.

Bonus Fact: Ever wonder what does CBD stand for? The answer: cannabidiol!

2.CBD and the Brain

Even frequent CBD users may not understand how their favorite CBD gummies actually work on a scientific level. CBD and THC work very differently within your brain.

Cannabinoids interact with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). The endocannabinoid system is a physiological system in all our bodies that regulates and influences our mood, appetite, and even our perception of pain. It has two primary parts of receptors: CB1 and CB2.

THC activates the CB1 receptors of the brain. These receptors are associated with memory, movement, and they also interact with the release of dopamine. Dopamine is our feel-good neurotransmitter. This is what causes those classic “stoner” effects.

CBD interacts with CB2 receptors, which are found throughout the brain, but more so throughout various immune system tissues in the body. CBD works with our body to help to communicate with itself, allowing it to reach balance! CBD doesn’t target one symptom or produce a certain outcome.

3.Not All CBD Oil is The Same

There are actually three different CBD oils on the market: full-spectrum CBD oil, broad-spectrum CBD oil, and CBD oil from CBD isolate. The main difference is they each contain different cannabinoids.

Full-spectrum means that all cannabis compounds are included in the oil, not just CBD. The Cannabis sativa plant is packed with other cannabinoids and terpenes that can have therapeutic effects. A full-spectrum CBD product must contain less than 0.3% THC. Full-spectrum allows all these cannabinoids to work together, creating a more powerful effect.

In a broad-spectrum product, almost all cannabinoids are left in the oil - only THC is extracted.

CBD isolate is a hemp extract that contains just CBD, taking out THC and all other hemp compounds. CBD isolate isn’t actually an oil; it is a crystalline powder. CBD isolate won’t provide the same “entourage effect” of full or broad-spectrum hemp extract.

4.CBD Works Better With Other Cannabinoids

CBD oil is more effective and powerful when it works among other cannabinoids rather than as an isolated ingredient. Let us introduce you to our friend: the entourage effect.

The “entourage effect” refers to the magical synergy of all the compounds within the plant working together. In a full or broad-spectrum hemp extract, you will be able to experience this magic. The feeling is almost euphoric (minus the high!).

At Winged Wellness, we created CBD products that harnessed the power of the entourage effect, formulating with both full and broad-spectrum hemp extract along with other natural ingredients. We wanted to leave CBD how nature intended.

5. Industrial Hemp is Federally Legal in All 50 States

With the pass of the 2018 Farm Bill, industrial hemp is not a controlled substance under federal law. First things first, what is industrial hemp?

Industrial hemp is defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% THC. Industrial hemp doesn’t just describe CBD oil, but all of hemp’s industrial uses like textiles and paper.

The Farm Bill legalizes hemp, but it doesn’t create a system where you can grow hemp as freely as other produce. It remains highly regulated for both personal and industrial production.

6. CBD for Woman’s Wellness

CBD has specific benefits for women-related issues! CBD is used by many women to obtain more balance and relaxation in their life. CBD has been used as a remedy for hormonal imbalances within women, helping to curb symptoms of PMS and menopause.
